Gambling.com carried out an extensive study into the season ticket prices of all 92 clubs in the Football League pyramid.
We collected the costs of the cheapest and most expensive season ticket for each club, both this season and last (2023/2024), to calculate how much extra fans are paying to watch their team.
The average cost of a season ticket at each club, and in each division overall along with any increase, were also calculated.
The Premier League kicks off on Friday night with Fulham's trip to Manchester United, and along with the other three professional English divisions already up and running, Gambling.com have decided to ease the burden on the pockets of some lucky fans.
Bar the Championship being an outlier, season ticket price increases ease as you go down the professional levels of the English football pyramid.
On average, the cost of a Premier League season ticket has gone up 9.4% from last season to this.
Bees Fans Feel The Sting In Price Increase
Brentford are entering their fourth successive season in the Premier League under Thomas Frank and the Bees will be hoping to improve on last season's 16th place finish.
Of the 20 top flight clubs, the Bees (31.7%) have increased the cost of their season tickets the most.
Nottingham Forest (24.4%), Southampton (23.6%) and Bournemouth (22%) are next on the list.
The Bees' average season ticket price hike is statistically the third biggest across England’s top four divisions, behind Lincoln (36.1%) and Sheffield United (32.9%).
Crystal Palace are the only Premier League club that have frozen their season ticket prices going into this term.
Liverpool, who are third favourites to win the Premier League on football betting sites, have the smallest increase at 2%, followed by Wolves (4.0%) and Fulham (4.7%).
Despite their price increases, Brentford still have the joint-lowest season ticket cost - with the Bees and Ipswich Town both charging holders an average of ￡637.50.
Everton (￡647.50), Southampton (￡654) and Newcastle’s (￡677.50) season tickets all also work out at less than ￡700 for the year.
Blades Fans Pay More Following Relegation
In terms of percentage increase over a single season, Sheffield United and their 32.9% increase leads the division following their relegation from the Premier League.
Leeds United (22.2%) and Derby County (20.7%) fans have also experienced quite notable (average) ticket cost rises this year.
The average season ticket cost in the Championship has gone up by 10.1% this season - to ￡496.92.
The most expensive season ticket in the Championship is at the Riverside Stadium. The median cost for Middlesborough fans to purchase an annual pass is ￡700.50.
Leeds United (￡651.50) and Norwich City (￡700) are the next costliest teams to watch in England’s second tier, according to the average season ticket cost at each club.
Millwall and Stoke City have frozen their season ticket prices for 24/25. Blackburn (3%), Preston (3.6%), Bristol City (3.8%) and Watford (4.6%) have all managed to keep their average increase to less than 5%.
At the other end of the expense spectrum, Coventry City have the cheapest season tickets in the Championship.
The West Midlands club’s average season ticket cost is ￡400, while Hull City (￡411), Preston (￡422), Swansea (￡428) and Stoke (￡431.50) complete our Championship affordability top five.
Imps Fans Hit The Hardest In League One
Lincoln City fans are faced with the biggest price hike of any of the 92 clubs.
A season ticket for the 2024/25 season at LNER Stadium (formerly Sincil Bank), has increased 36.1%.
The average cost of a season ticket at Bolton Wanderers (20.1%) and Crawley Town (20%) have also gone up by more than a fifth.
Overall, League One supporters are being charged 6.9% more for season ticket compared to last term.
The most expensive season tickets in League One on average, are Lincoln City (￡599), Shrewsbury Town (￡550) and Barnsley (￡489), against the league average of ￡434.15.
Huddersfield Town have the cheapest season ticket cost in England’s third tier, and across the top four divisions, with their average offering working out at ￡249.
The West Yorkshire club are also one of six clubs (Burton, Rotherham, Wycombe, Exeter and Peterborough) that have frozen their season ticket prices for this season.
Crawley Town is the next most affordable at ￡326.50, just ahead of Burton Albion (￡360).
Notts County Prices Rise By Almost A Quarter
Following their promotion to League Two, Notts County finished a creditable 12th last season.
The Magpies have seen Wrexham, their rivals from their promotion-winning season in the National League, secure back-to-back promotions and they will be hoping to go up this season.
Ahead of the 2024/25 season, County have increased the price of their season tickets for the by 23.3% - the biggest increase in the league.
Crewe Alexandra (21.1%) and Bromley (20.7%) fans have also seen the cost increase by at least a fifth.
AFC Wimbledon (￡485), MK Dons (￡483) and Crewe Alexandra (￡460) have the highest average season ticket cost overall, while Accrington Stanley (￡237.50), Fleetwood Town (￡259) and Salford City (￡307) have the cheapest.
The average cost of a season ticket across League Two has gone up 6.5% compared to last season, the lowest statistical rise of the top four leagues.
Nine clubs have frozen their prices ahead of 24/25 - Cheltenham Town, Colchester United, Doncaster Rovers, Fleetwood Town, Milton Keynes Dons, Newport County AFC, Port Vale, Tranmere Rovers and Walsall.
Methodology
Gambling.com gathered the cheapest and most expensive season tickets for all 92 PL clubs - both in 2023/2024 and 2024/2025. Prices were sourced from official club communications, local news sites or fan publications.
An attempt was made to only analyse general admission prices, and exclude hospitality/premium options. However, with some clubs these lines have blurred significantly.
If for example only 'early bird' season ticket prices were available for 2023/2024 - an attempt was made to compare this with the exact same ticket type/period in the 2024/2025 season.
The monetary and percentage increase between the cheapest, most expensive and average season ticket cost was calculated between both seasons, for each club.
The monetary and percentage increase of the average season ticket cost in each division (overall) between both seasons was also calculated.
