Which Game Show Will Be Revived Next? Blind Date Still Favourite For A Comeback

Game shows have been a British TV staple for years now, and while several have been axed in recent times, some others previously shelved have received the reboot treatment.

This has sparked speculation on the best betting sites about which axed series could be next to make a comeback following the successful return of Gladiators, which has since been recommissioned for a second series, complete with a celebrity spin-off and a rebooted Deal or No Deal, hosted by Stephen Mulhern.

Stephen may soon be coined the "king of the comeback" after it was confirmed earlier this month that he and his Dancing on Ice co-host Holly Willoughby are to front a reboot of 80s and 90s game show You Bet!

The iconic challenge show will return to ITV1 this autumn for two primetime event specials full of epic challenges, mind-blowing feats, big-name celebrities and nail-biting suspense.

The show will see a celebrity panel and the studio audience predict if members of the public can complete extraordinary challenges, and if they guess correctly points are added to the celebrities’ score, based on the percentage of studio audience who voted the same way.

At the end of the show, the studio audience vote for their favourite challenger who takes home a massive £10,000, and the celeb with the highest score wins £10,000 for their chosen charity.

Blind Date's BBC Return?

Other shows which have recently returned from the good old days include Wheel of Fortune presented by Graham Norton and a Stephen Fry-hosted Jeopardy!.

Both were rebooted earlier this year and Jeopardy! has since been greenlit for a surprise second series.

But Blind Date is currently the 4/7 favourite on specials betting sites - from 4/6 earlier this year - to be the next show to make such a comeback.

It comes after Holly's husband, TV producer Dan Baldwin, who was behind the recent Gladiators return, said recently on BBC Radio 4: "You always look at old shows that are no longer on television. You are always coming up with new ways of bringing back a show.

"There is nothing wrong with that because those shows were great for a reason.

"As well as coming up with new ideas, we’ve always got one eye on what could come back and what could be a hit like Gladiators is.

"Another one that you’d like to see back, Blind Date, are we ready for that? What a Saturday night that was."

While Holly is likely to be in contention to host a potential Blind Date revamp, Dan has hinted The Traitors host Claudia Winkleman is the frontrunner for the job, and the show looks set for a move to the BBC.

He added: "I’m thinking Blind Date with Claudia Winkleman on BBC One, how about it?"

Can I Have A Reboot Please, Bob?

Another iconic game show which is due a comeback is The Generation Game.

The programme was initially fronted by Sir Bruce Forsyth in 1971, and presenting duo Mel and Sue had a go at bringing it back in 2018, but it was panned by the critics. Despite this, it's just 2/1 that The Generation Game makes another return.

Odds of 4/1 are available on betting apps that a revival of Blockbusters - which is best known for contestants asking host Bob Holness: "Can I have a 'P' please, Bob?" - can get off the ground.

Like The Generation Game, Robot Wars was also treated to a reboot in the 2010s.

Dara ó Briain and Angela Scanlon were at the helm for a three-series return from 2016 to 2017, but nearly 10 years on, the classic show is crying out for longtime host Craig Charles to front a reboot.

It is just 5/1 that Robot Wars returns, and 6/1 for the snooker-themed show Big Break to be back on our screens for the first time since 2002.

They Think It's Time For A Return?

Another recent game show that underwent a slight revamp was A Question Of Sport, which saw Paddy McGuinness replace legendary TV presenter Sue Barker as the host.

But how about a return of A Question Of Sport's cheekier and more risqué older brother They Think It's All Over?

With a title inspired by Kenneth Wolstenholme's iconic "they think it's all over… it is now" quote from the 1966 World Cup final commentary, the show hasn't been seen since 2006.

While producers have now missed the chance to bring it back in time for Euro 2024, a comeback in time for the 2026 World Cup, after a 20-year break for the show, would be fitting.

Odds of 3/1 are available that TV bosses can get their act together in time for the tournament.

Other programmes that could get TV producers' juices flowing could be a return of the iconic Shooting Stars (10/1), but some of the content may have to be toned down for the 2020s.

What's more, animals are still very much a hit on TV, with the likes of Crufts and For The Love Of Dogs still on the box, so it's a huge surprise that 11/1 chance Pets Win Prizes hasn't aired since 1996.
