Tom Lee's Panel Tips For This Weekend

The crossbar is still trembling from last weekend's near miss after Sheffield United surrendered a two-goal lead against QPR when the points appeared to be in the bag.

So it's back to work to seek out the right ammunition to return us to the winners' enclosure on this third weekend of the EFL campaign.

Once again this week I'll be turning my attention to the action in the Championship and League Two for my EFL double.

Norwich City Vs Sheffield United, Saturday 3.00pm

Last Saturday, normally ruthless Sheffield United will have been scratching their heads after allowing a two goal lead to slip at home to QPR, the Blades losing their cutting edge after cantering into a comfortable and at the time seemingly unassailable lead.

It wasn't to be, but Chris Wilder's team have already proven they can be ruthless on their travels, and those two points dropped can be consigned to the 'blip' column when they make the long journey to face Norwich City at Carrow Road this time around.

As detailed in this space seven days ago, the Bramall Lane outfit have traded well over the summer months, assembling talent fit for launching a sustained assault on the Championship summit.

By contrast, Norwich look like they're under the influence of a weighty play-off hangover, memories still vivid of their 4-0 thumping away at Leeds on May 16.

They opened up this time around with a tame 2-0 away defeat at the hands of newly promoted Oxford United, before having just 46% possession at home against Blackburn in a game where they lead late on but never looked secure, almost inevitably conceding an 87th minute equaliser to Rovers' Yuki Ohashi.

There may well be more disappointment to come for followers of the Canaries.

Sitting next to my former Channel 4 Racing colleague and long suffering Norwich season ticket holder, Rod Carr - you may well remember him as the lucky chap who for many a year had the pleasure of holding Big Mac's betting ring cigar - I was present inside Carrow Road on the first day of April 2023, the last time these two sides met in Norfolk, getting a perfect view as James McAtee's goal was enough to ensure all three points were safe for export.

There's a strong chance of a similar outcome 16 months on, and Sheffield United get the vote as leg one of this weekend's EFL double, with 6/4 the odds of reward with betting sites

Chesterfield Vs Salford City, Saturday 3.00pm

I already mentioned Oxford, but more widely speaking the promoted teams have been having a ball so far across all tiers of the EFL, the highlight being League Two newcomers Chesterfield and their 5-0 ransacking of Gresty Road last weekend.

A dazed and confused Crewe Alexandra the victims, left out for the count after four Spireites goals in the opening 28 minutes.

The National League champions of 2024, they smashed in a whopping 106 goals last season, 24 of which came from well-travelled Will Grigg.

He chipped in against Crewe, one of four individual scorers, and confidence will be high as Chesterfield entertain struggling Salford City in Derbyshire on Saturday afternoon.

Salford stunk out Valley Parade for a stoppage laden 0-0 against Bradford last time out in the league, but normal service was resumed with a defeat to Doncaster in the Cup in midweek, and the Ammies are still to score a goal this season.

Put simply, I fancy Chesterfield at 6/10 with betting apps to well and truly take them apart.
