Premier League Predictions Gameweek 1 - Brian McClair on The Panel

Brian McClair's Premier League Week 1 Picks

Throughout the season, Manchester United and Celtic legend Brian McClair will be giving his predictions for every Premier League game.

In four seasons at Celtic, McClair made 204 appearances in all competitions and scored 126 goals, securing the Scottish Premier League and Scottish FA Cup while finishing as top-scorer for the Hoops on four occasions.

His prolific goalscoring record quickly attracted the attention of clubs south of the border and in 1987, McClair became Alex Ferguson's first signing at Manchester United, going on to win four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and the European Cup Winners' Cup in his 11 years at Old Trafford.

Brian joins The Panel this Premier League season 2024/25 and will pass expert judgement with his score predictions on all games whilst The Panel team will examine the best football betting sites to find the best odds should his predictions hit the back of the net.

Watch him discuss the games below and keep an eye each week to see how Brian and The Panel get on this season.

Man Utd Vs Fulham, Friday 8pm

Manchester United and Fulham will kick off the 2024/25 Premier League season on Friday night at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils, coming off a narrow defeat to Manchester City in the Community Shield, are aiming to improve on last season's eighth-place finish, which included a 2-1 home loss to Fulham.

Fulham, despite losing star midfielder Joao Palhinha to Bayern Munich, have bolstered their squad with the addition of Emile Smith Rowe, as they strive for a third consecutive mid-table finish at the very least.

Brian says: "It's the eighth time in recent times that United have opened their campaign with a home game and I can't see Manchester United losing this one.

"United have signed a couple of defenders but I still think they will be vulnerable at the back with a new back four for Onana to deal with.

"Even so, I've got United to win this by three goals to one."

Ipswich Town Vs Liverpool, Saturday 12.30pm

Ipswich Town will host Liverpool in their first Premier League match in over 22 years when they meet at Portman Road on Saturday lunchtime.

The Tractor Boys have been thrust into the spotlight following back-to-back promotions under Kieran McKenna, bringing them to the top-flight quicker than anyone expected.

With Jurgen Klopp departing Anfield last season, new Liverpool manager Arne Slot has chosen an evolution-over-revolution strategy, with no new signings made so far. However, he still has an abundance of talent at his disposal.

Brian says: "I'm looking at this one really as a cup tie and I'm expecting Ipswich to get a result in this game.

"In the history of the Premier League, Liverpool rarely lose on the opening day, and I'm not saying they will here.

"Ipswich are full of players who recently were performing very well in League One, so all of those players will be full of excitement and ambition to do well in this particular fixture against Liverpool.

"I can see this one being very exciting for the spectators and I'm going for it to end in a 2-2 draw."

Leicester City Vs Tottenham Hotspur, Monday, 8pm

Tottenham will kick off their second Premier League season under Ange Postecoglou with an away match against newly-promoted Leicester.

Despite the disappointment of missing out on Champions League qualification after a promising start, Postecoglou's side finished just two points shy of the top four, so confidence remains high.

Leicester, on the other hand, cruised to the Championship title but have since lost manager Enzo Maresca to Chelsea.

"This is a great fixture for Monday Night Football with Leicester City facing Tottenham under the lights.

"Ange Postecoglou is a man who I've got great admiration for in the way that he sets up his teams and the way that his teams play, and how he wants to win all the time.

"And for that reason I think Spurs will have too much for the newly-promoted Foxes and can see them winning this 2-0."
