EFL Tips: The Panel's Ultimate Betting Guide To The 2024/25 League One Season

Rarely has the start of the League One season had so much attention as to how it will pan out over the next nine months or so.

That's to do with two teams who have entered the league from different directions.

Birmingham City were one of three sides relegated from the Championship in May after a disastrous campaign that saw the Blues win just 13 of their 46 matches.

Joining the St Andrew's club in the third tier of English football are Wrexham, who continue their ascent up the leagues under the ownership of Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

But how will they and the other 22 League One clubs do this season? We've analysed the odds offered on the best football betting sites to bring you the ultimate betting guide.

Birmingham To Banish The Blues Of Relegation

Birmingham City were one of the biggest disappointments in the EFL last season, and their relegation was confirmed before they beat Norwich 1-0 at home to end their campaign.

Relegation to League One was not what the owners, who include former NFL superstar quarterback Tom Brady, had envisaged.

Blues manager Chris Davies enters the season knowing promotion is the ultimate goal, and the best betting sites have Birmingham as the 2/1 favourites to win League One.

Bolton, who lost the play-off final in May are 10/1 to be crowned champions while Rotherham, also relegated with Birmingham are 11/1 to reclaim their place in the Championship as champions.

Season Of Stability Expected For Wrexham

Wrexham's fanbase has grown exponentially ever since Hollywood actors Reynolds and McElhenney bought the club in September 2020.

The Welsh club are in the third tier for the first time since the 2004/05 season following back-to-back promotions from the National League to League One.

What will the new season hold for the Racecourse Ground club?

If the odds on the betting apps are to be believed, then Wrexham will hold their own and stay in the division for another season.

League One Odds

Of the four sides promoted, Wrexham have the best chance of making it to the Championship.

Phil Parkinson's side are 18/1 to win the league, 5/1 to win promotion and 20/1 to be relegated.

Stockport, who have won two promotions in three seasons, are 13/2 to be promoted.

Season Of Struggle For Crawley

Goals from Danilo Orsi and Liam Kelly ensured it was a memorable day at Wembley for Crawley against Crewe in the League Two play-off final.

Last season may have ended in euphoria, but this season is expected to be a challenge for Scott Lindsey's side who are the 7/2 favourites to finish bottom of the pile in League One and 4/5 to be relegated.

League One Odds

Shrewsbury picked up just four points in their final seven league games to leave them in danger of being relegated to League Two.

They survived last season, but they are 11/8 second favourites for the drop this season.

Cambridge (13/8) complete the three teams at the top of the market to be relegated. Garry Monk will hope for better after winning just two of his 11 league games at the end of last season.

May The Force Be With The Blues

Birmingham are determined to make their stay in League One as short as possible and in their quest for promotion, they have signed the most prolific scorer in the league last season.

Alfie May found the back of the net 23 times in 43 league games for a Charlton side that finished 16th and he is the 4/1 favourite to finish as League One's leading scorer for the second successive season.

Jonson Clarke-Harris is the 8/1 second favourite on new betting sites to score more goals than anyone else in League One.

Clarke-Harris left Peterborough to join Rotherham on a free transfer and if the forward's goals help the Millers win promotion, then it will be arguably the league's best piece of business completed this summer.

Third at the top of the market is Wrexham's Paul Mullin (16/1), who has been a scoring sensation since moving to the Racecourse Ground in July 2021.

A total of 88 goals in 122 league games have helped Wrexham rise up through the leagues and his goals will be crucial if the Welsh side are to challenge for promotion.
