Wilfried Gnonto could join a summer exodus at Leeds in the summer after the club failed to secure promotion to the Premier League and the best betting sites are considering his next destination.

United chairman Paraag Marathe has admitted players may be sold in order to balance the books amid speculation the club owe around £190million in transfer instalments.

With 11 players due to return to Elland Road following the expiry of their loan deals, the likes of Archie Gray and Crysencio Summerville may leave Elland Road during the transfer window.

Gnonto refused to play for the first three games of the season after his transfer request was rejected, but soon returned to the fold once he had apologised for his behaviour.

The Italian, 20, went on to score eight goals in the Championship and started the play-off final defeat by Southampton, but now it seems his time in West Yorkshire is coming to an end.

New betting sites are now wondering where Gnonto will be playing next season, so below are the clubs in the running and the latest odds.

Italian Job Could Be On The Cards

According to Italian publication CalcioMercato, Gnonto is keen to return to Serie A in a bid to force his way back into the Italy team.

Gnonto was omitted from Luciano Spalletti’s initial 30-man squad for Euro 2024 and playing in the second tier in England will not have helped his cause.

AC Milan were one of the clubs interested in signing Gnonto on loan at the start of the season, but Leeds were reportedly only interested in selling for £20million which put off potential suitors.

It’s possible the price tag may have dropped since then, but Gnonto is a 13-capped Italy international and Leeds won’t want to sell him on the cheap.

Milan are close to unveiling Paulo Fonseca as their new head coach after Stefano Pioli’s five-year reign came to end in May, so it remains to be seen how the new era will approach the transfer market.

Milan would at least be able to offer Gnonto Champions League football next season and they are 6/4 favourites with football betting sites to make a successful bid for a player that started his career as a youth with city rivals Inter.

Fiorentina were also one of the teams put off by United’s asking price last August, and turned their interest elsewhere when it became obvious the Championship club were not interested in a loan deal.

La Viola were also interested in signing Gnonto when he was at FC Zurich, so they have been keeping tabs on the winger for some time.

However, an eighth-placed finish in Serie A and defeat to Olympiacos in the Europa Conference League final mean they can only offer third-tier European football next season.

Toffees Head Premier League Field

Everton submitted a third and final bid of £25.7million to sign Gnonto last August and would have fancied their chances after seeing Leeds loan out 11 players across Europe during the transfer window.

Gnonto even went on strike to engineer a move to Goodison Park, but when it became clear that United were reportedly holding out for £30m, the Merseysiders accepted defeat.

But could they come back this summer now that their Premier League safety is assured?

Possibly, but 777 Partners’ failed takeover and the uncertainty surrounding the club’s future may prove a sticking point for Gnonto, who may not fancy a relegation battle next season.

That said, Everton are leading the chase from Premier League clubs and are 3/1 to sign the 20-year-old winger in the coming months.

Roma and Bologna Potentially In The Mix

Like Fiorentina, Roma also had an interest in Gnonto when the then-teenager was in Switzerland.

Having finished sixth in Serie A, the Giallorossi will be playing in the Europa League next season which should appeal to the youngster, who was not always a regular starter under manager Daniel Farke.

Roma are available at 4/1 with betting apps, but is it possible Bologna could launch a summer swoop for the Leeds star?

Bologna qualified for the Champions League for the first time, but their manager Thiago Motta is close to joining Juventus to replace Massimiliano Allegri, who was sacked after he led the side to an Italian Cup triumph against Atalanta.

La Grassa are going to need extra quality to compete at Europe’s top table and domestically, so a potential move for a player keen to return to his native country would make sense.

Bologna are fifth favourites at 9/2 to bring Gnonto to the Emilia-Romagna capital.

Promoted Clubs Could Launch Bids

Leicester and Ipswich will both be playing in the Premier League next season, so could they make a move for a player with top-flight experience?

Gnonto scored two goals in his debut season with Leeds following a deadline-day move at the start of the 2022-23 campaign, one of which came after just 55 seconds in a 2-2 draw at Manchester United.

Leicester are another club looking for a new manager following Enzo Maresca’s move to Chelsea, so whoever takes over from the Italian will need to add more quality if they are to avoid another relegation.

The Foxes are 6/1 to snap up Gnonto, the same price as fellow promoted side Ipswich, who at least have stability on their side after manager Kieran McKenna recently signed a new four-year contract.

Torino, Palace And Cottagers Dark Horses

Torino were thought to be keen on signing Gnonto when he was at Zurich in 2022, but could they renew their interest after a third successive top-half finish?

Ivan Juric has worked wonders in his three seasons with Torino and knowing Gnonto is keen to return to Italy could spark a move which is priced at 7/1 and could be a good choice for your free bet stakes.

Crystal Palace are expecting a tough summer trying to keep hold of star players Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze, and will be on the look-out for replacements should should they find big offers hard to resist.

The Eagles are 8/1 to bring Gnonto to south London, while it’s 10/1 Fulham make a successful move.

The Cottagers won just two of their last nine Premier League games to finish in the bottom half of the table and manager Marco Silva may decide to freshen up his squad for the big kick-off in August.
