Scottish Open Betting Tips: Four Renaissance Club Picks From The Panel

Scottish Open Betting Predictions:

A high-class field gathers for the Scottish Open this week when Rory McIlroy defends the title he won in spectacular fashion 12 months ago with birdies on the final two holes to deny Robert MacIntyre victory on home soil.

McIlroy is making his first appearance since throwing away the US Open at Pinehurst on the final four holes four weeks ago which he described as “probably the toughest day” of his career.

In the absence of world number one Scottie Scheffler, betting sites have installed McIlroy as the 8/1 favourite, followed closely by USPGA champion Xander Schauffle (9/1), 2021 Open winner Collin Morikawa and Ludvig Aberg (both 16/1).

The Renaissance Club is hosting this event for the sixth successive year and is perfect preparation for next week’s Open Championship at Royal Troon.

The Panel have checked out the form and the latest odds and picked out four Scottish Open betting tips for this week’s tournament which has six members of the world’s top 10 competing on the east coast.

MacIntyre A Renaissance Man

Robert MacIntyre was “absolutely gutted” to miss out on the Scottish Open last year, but he is hopeful he can go one better this time.

The 27-year-old lefty “thought it might be enough” when he held a one-shot clubhouse lead only for McIlroy to birdie the par-three 17th in windy conditions and then again on the tough last hole after a brilliant approach to around 10 feet.

Nevertheless, MacIntyre was “absolutely delighted” with the way he played and his confidence will remain high after landing a maiden PGA Tour title at the Canadian Open a few weeks ago.

Aside from the majors, the Scottish Open is a priority for MacIntyre even though he now plays on the PGA Tour.

Winners at this par-70, 7,237-yard coastal links course have tended to perform well in the Strokes Gained: Putting and Tee-to-Green stats and MacIntyre was in the top six for both measures last year.

Although he has been so-so in these areas on his debut season on the PGA Tour, a return to familiar territory and a vocal local support could see MacIntyre thrive at a course where finding the large, undulating greens is not a problem unless the wind blows.

MacIntyre is competing against a tough field, but he has the comfort of home on his side and looks a great play at 45/1 with betting apps.

Hot Kim Has Course Form

Kim Joo-hyung, better known as Tom Kim, is back in the world’s top 20 thanks to a runner-up spot at the Travelers Championship where he lost to Scheffler in a play-off.

Three weeks earlier, Kim finished fourth at the Canadian Open, three shots adrift of MacIntyre, so his form is excellent as he returns to his beloved Renaissance Club.

The South Korean was third on his Renaissance Club debut in 2022 and 12 months later waxed lyrical about his love of Scotland on the back of a sixth-place finish.

In the following week, Kim was one of four players in a tie for second to runaway winner Brian Harman at The Open Championship, so this is a player who clearly knows how to handle the tricky conditions of links golf.

With course and current form on his side, Kim gets the nod as The Panel’s second Scottish Open prediction.

Fleetwood And Detry Make The Frame

Tommy Fleetwood also has brilliant course form here with his figures from the last four years reading 2-26-4-6 and looks a decent shout at 20/1 with golf betting sites.

The links specialist has been inside the top 10 in three of the last four Opens and has made the cut in 10 successive tournaments, finishing 30th or better on eight occasions, including third at the US Masters.

The Southport-born player won in Dubai in January and of course nearly won here in 2020 when it was rescheduled for autumn because of Covid, so he looks primed as a potential winner, just like Thomas Detry.

The Panel Tip 3: Tommy Fleetwood To Win (Each-Way) - 20/1 With Bet365 (Five Places)

The Belgian, playing in his second full season on the PGA Tour, has power off the tee to gain an advantage over much of the field and importantly he has played well here before.

Although he is yet to win on either the DP World Tour or PGA Tour, Detry went close in 2021 when he lost a three-man play-off with Matt Fitzpatrick and winner Min Woo Lee which he followed with 10th spot at the same course a year later.

Detry was also runner-up at this year’s Houston Open and he played exceptionally well at both the USPGA Championship (T4) and US Open (T14).

Having finished inside the top 15 at Hoylake 12 months ago, Detry is starting to show a liking for links courses, having also posted fourth at Pebble Beach earlier in the season.

Detry is 60/1 with £10 Get £40 In Casino Bonuses" data-brand_id="924" data-brand_product_id="342" data-offer_id="949" data-site_offer_id="1215" data-gtm="pagetext Unibet" data-cta_hash="f945e0be-dabc-4240-a6f9-f3f1584c7503" >Unibet, who are paying out on six places, but The Panel are on board the 5/2 on a top-20 finish as the last of our Scottish Open predictions.

The Panel Tip 4: Thomas Detry Top 20 - 5/2 With SpreadEx
