Euro 2024 Player Of The Tournament Betting Tips

With all the recent discussion over who will win the Ballon d’Or, it’s easy to forget there are a few more individual accolades up for grabs this summer.

Uefa first introduced an official European Championship Player of the Tournament award for Euro 96 and some megastars of the game have picked up the gong, including Zinedine Zidane, Andreas Iniesta, Antoine Griezmann and, most recently, Gianluigi Donnarumma.

The first thing to note when looking at past winners is all but one – Griezmann in 2016 – played for the Euro winners.

The second point of interest is where the winners played. Five of the seven official recipients were predominantly midfielders. Donnarumma is the only goalkeeper to win, and Griezmann is the only forward.

Football betting sites make Real Madrid new boy Kylian Mbappe the favourite to become only the second forward to take home the prize, just ahead of his club mate Jude Bellingham.

It’s an intriguing market, littered with potential winners at some big prices, and The Panel have picked out three players to have caught their eye.

There’s no each-way option in the Player of the Tournament betting, which should be kept in mind should you choose to place any wagers.

Kane More Than Just A Goal Machine

Despite the trend for midfielders winning this prize, The Panel can’t overlook England captain Harry Kane at 12/1 with BetVictor

He’s the same price as Phil Foden on most betting sites and if the Three Lions are to end their long wait for silverware, both men will need to perform.

Kane and Foden have had excellent domestic campaigns, but it is tough to shake the feeling Kane would have been shorter with UK bookmakers had the majority of his good work not taken place outside the Premier League bubble with Bayern Munich.

Kane has enjoyed a stellar first season in Germany on a personal level. Bayern may not have won anything but the former Tottenham man still bagged 44 goals in 45 games in all competitions for the Bavarians.

His tally of 36 Bundesliga goals was a record for a player in his first season in Germany’s top flight, while he netted 12 times in the Champions League, a record for an Englishman.

Goals are what make Kane special, but they perhaps overshadow how good an all-rounder he is. He registered 12 assists this season for Bayern, while he had more assists (3) than goals (2) for England at the last World Cup.

England’s all-time leading scorer netted eight times in qualifying and took his tally to 63 for the Three Lions when scoring in the warm-up win over Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Kane is 11/2 to finish as the top scorer at the Euros and is a runner in that race too, but The Panel like the price on him to be crowned Player of the Tournament a little bit more.

Rodri Key To La Roja Chances

Spain are something of an unknown quantity at these Euros, but if they are to go deep in the tournament, you can bet Rodri will be key to their efforts.

Arguably the best defensive midfielder in the world right now, the Manchester City man dictates the game for a Spain team that will see plenty of the ball.

He should stand out in Spain’s matches, and he has form for winning Uefa awards, having been named the player of the Nations League finals last year when La Roja won the trophy.

That accolade was bestowed on him a week after he was crowned the Champions League Player of the Season.

Having been picked out twice by Uefa observers for awards and off the back of another strong season for City in which he’s added goals to his game, Rodri looks overpriced at 33/1 on betting apps.

Fernandes Flying Ahead Of Euros

Rodri was on a British record run of 71 games in all competitions without being on the losing side before last month’s FA Cup final, when a Bruno Fernandes-inspired Man Utd defeated City.

Fernandes has had a decent season which has been overshadowed by all United’s issues, but really stepped it up in the last knockings of the campaign and heads to Germany looking sharp.

He’s part of an incredibly talented Portugal side, one poised to step out of Cristiano Ronaldo’s shadow and Fernandes has demonstrated at club level he may be ready to become the new talisman of the national team.

The 29-year-old has thrived in Portugal’s new system under their more attack-minded coach Roberto Martinez, scoring six goals and registering eight assists in qualifying for the Euros.

He’s 40/1 to be named Player of the Tournament and The Panel hope he’ll prove good value at that price if he stays on his current trajectory.
