England vs Senegal Predictions:

Betting sites have installed England as the odds-on favourites to beat Senegal when the teams clash in the World Cup Round of 16 on Sunday.

The Three Lions finished top of their group after Marcus Rashford fired them to a comfortable 3-0 victory over Wales in midweek.

Their reward is an intriguing showdown with the Lions of Teranga, who seized second place in Group A following their 2-1 win against Ecuador.

Senegal are the reigning African champions and they boast quality players such as Kalidou Koulibaly, Abdou Diallo and Ismaila Sarr.

However, their best player - talismanic forward Sadio Mané - did not make the World Cup squad after suffering an injury when playing for Bayern Munich.

As such, England are the clear favourites to advance to the quarter-finals at Senegal’s expense, but can they live up to their billing?

We have analysed the main betting markets for this match and provided tips for each of them.

Who Will Win England vs Senegal?

England’s players should be full of confidence after sweeping Wales aside on Tuesday night to finish top of Group B.

The fans booed Gareth Southgate’s men off the pitch following their 0-0 draw with the USA, but they were jubilant once more after watching Tuesday’s emphatic victory.

There are plenty of reasons for optimism among the Three Lions faithful - nine goals scored in three matches, two clean sheets and some brilliant individual performances from the likes of Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford.

In his post-match analysis, Bellingham admitted that England had been “too passive” in their stalemate against the Americans, and they delivered the perfect response.

That 0-0 draw served as a wake-up call for Southgate’s men, and they are now surging with momentum as they prepare for the Round of 16.

Senegal are a strong team, busting with pace and power, but England should ultimately outclass them as this game wears on and that’s why they are heavy favourites on World Cup betting sites.

How Can We Find More Value On A Three Lions Victory?

England certainly cannot afford to take Senegal lightly in this match, as the Lions of Teranga have enjoyed a strong run of results this year.

They won the Africa Cup of Nations in February, before edging out Mohamed Salah’s Egypt in a tense World Cup play-off clash.

However, the injury to Mané on the eve of the tournament was a major blow, and Senegal missed his attacking potency in their 2-0 defeat to the Netherlands.

They bounced back by beating Qatar and Ecuador, but they now face a huge step up in class against England.

After all, Qatar have been confirmed as the worst-performing host nation in World Cup history, while Ecuador are not exactly stacked with elite talent.

Sarr is a handful in attack, but he is nevertheless a Championship player, while Koulibaly has struggled at Chelsea.

Meanwhile, Idrissa Gueye - the Everton midfielder - will miss this match after receiving his second yellow card of the tournament against Ecuador, which depletes their engine room.

If England play like they did against Iran and Wales, football betting sites believe they will be able to put a couple of goals past édouard Mendy on Sunday.

Who Could Score In This Match?

Gareth Southgate

Southgate will now find it difficult to leave Rashford out of his starting XI after the Man Utd forward put Wales to the sword with a superb brace.

The manager opted to start Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling either side of Harry Kane in England’s first two group stage matches.

However, he gave Rashford and Phil Foden a chance against Wales, and Rashford grasped the opportunity with both hands - putting himself in the mix at the top end of the World Cup Golden Boot odds.

Foden was impressive too, but Rashford really stood out with his pace, energy and movement off the ball.

He is now the joint top scorer in the tournament - he was also on target after coming off the bench in the 6-2 win against Iran - and Southgate may feel compelled to leave either Sterling or Saka out of the team to accommodate Rashford.

Kane has been playing very deep, turning from goalscorer to provider, and England’s wingers have been the main beneficiaries, accounting for eight of their nine goals thus far.

If Rashford starts on Sunday, he could be England’s primary goal threat, so odds of 12/5 on him scoring look appealing on betting apps.

Under 2.5 Goals Is Worth A Punt

Senegal left-back Ismail Jakobs could have his hands full when trying to contain the England attack in this match.

The Monaco star, who represented Germany at under-21 level before declaring for Senegal earlier this year, came into the team for the 3-1 victory over Qatar.

He was shown a yellow card in that game after catching an opponent with a flailing elbow when trying to block a run.

The Senegalese may need to engage in tactical fouling on Sunday, as England can be very quick and incisive on the break.

Jakobs may have to deal with Rashford, Sterling, Saka, Foden and/or Jack Grealish at various times in this match, so the price on him going in the referee’s book are tempting on new betting sites.
