MLB Expansion Odds And Top Cities
With the Nevada Legislature and governor signing off this week on a funding plan for a Major League Baseball stadium on the Las Vegas Strip, it seems certain the Oakland A’s are headed to Southern Nevada.
The question now is which cities are in line for an MLB expansion team. The league has indicated it might expand to two cities.
Orlando is included in the potential MLB expansion odds list below but is rumored to be a possible relocation site for the Tampa Bay Rays if that team is unsuccessful, as the A’s were, in winning support for a new ballpark. If the Rays don’t move, Orlando could be in contention for an expansion big league baseball team.
Back in Las Vegas, the A’s $1.5 billion, 30,000-seat stadium with a retractable roof would be built at the site of the Rat Pack-era Tropicana hotel-casino. The former Mob-linked resort, which first opened in 1957 and currently is operated by Bally’s Corp. of Rhode Island, is slated for demolition.
